Thomas John Bailey of Nichols
Nichols--Thomas John Bailey of Nichols died Monday, October 28, 2013 at his residence. Born July 3, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Thomas Leo and Dora Mamula Bailey. Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Bonita Bailey of Nichols, a daughter, Brooke (Bob) Hungesser of Sewickley, PA; his grandchildren, Max and Riley Hungesser; two sisters, Mildred (Ed) Giel of Pittsburgh, PA and Jean Hall of Vernon Hills, IL, and a sister-in-law, Gracie (Jesse) Morgan of Darlington. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 30th at Margaret’s Restaurant in Mullins.

Murvin Drew

Mullins--Murvin Drew, 67, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 11, 2013. He was born in Marion County, a son of the late Evander and Wilma Lane Drew. Murvin was predeceased in addition to his parents, by his second wife, Patsy Drew and a sister, Levan Fowler. He is survived by his wife, Nollie “Libby” Drew of Mullins; son, Luke Cory Drew and his children, Keith and Hana Drew of Mullins, two daughters, Mia Drew of Florence, and Monica E. Drew and her son, Austin Lovett of Mullins; a brother, Jimmy Dale (Mary) Drew of Pace, Florida; and a sister, Carolyn (Archie) Rogers of Frederick, MD. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 14th in the chapel of Meares Funeral Home. Burial followed at Midway Cemetery in Mullins. Nancy Ann Effinger Atkinson
Nancy Ann Effinger Atkinson crossed the water Tuesday, 11-12-13. She was 81, ready and content. She had done her share. She was eager to move on. Nancy was special. She loved life and those with whom she shared it. Always smiling, ever inspiring. She exuded a sense of purity that made others want what she had. Her parents, Alma and Edward Effinger and her son, James, were waiting for her. Bill, her husband of 59 years, her other children Douglas, Robert, Carrie Smyth (Steve) and Jennifer Mischel (Trip) and grandchildren, Eddie, Tripper, Ivey, Izzie, Brooks and Alexa remain. Nancy enjoyed tennis She enthusiastically served the First Baptist Church English-As-A-Second Language program.

John Hilmon "Johnny" Dixon Jr., age 88, of Pawleys Island
Mullins--John Hilmon “Johnny” Dixon Jr., age 88, of Pawleys Island died Thursday, October 24, 2013 at his home. Born September 8, 1925 in Mullins, he was the son of the late John H. Dixon Sr. and Elsie Tredway Dixon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Martin Dixon. Mr. Dixon graduated from Mullins High School and attended The Citadel from 1942-43. He then entered the U.S. Navy, serving for three years during World War II.

Audrey Idell Stroud, 79, of Nichols passed away Monday, October 21, 2013 at her home. She was born in Horry County, a daughter of the late Lanneau and Annie McCrackin Collins. Mrs. Stroud was predeceased by her husband, Thomas L. Stroud and a daughter, Donna Stroud. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Eugene Stroud of Florida and Larry L. Stroud (Sheila) of Nichols; three daughters, Marilyn Martin (Larry) of Marion, Pat Stroud of Nichols, and Opal Pearl Stroud (Jim) of Nichols; a brother, William Collins (Blanche) of Conway; a sister, Annie Bell Hodges of Virginia Beach, Virginia; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Cary, NC--Henrietta "T-Net" Owens Paige, 92
Cary, NC--Henrietta “T-Net” Owens Paige, 92, of Cary, formerly of Benson, died Oct. 23, 2013 at Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Apex. Born Jan. 21, 1921 in Marion, S.C., she was the daughter of the former Douglas Lamar Owens and Lillian Miles Owens. A graveside service was held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols, S.C. Mrs. Paige was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother and most recently, great-grandmother. A dedicated homemaker, she was a longtime member of Benson Baptist Church, keeping the nursery for decades. With an outgoing personality, Mrs. Paige never met a stranger and loved to talk.

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Charles Laprelle Elvington, 84
MATTHEWS, N. C.--Lt. Col. (Ret.) Charles Laprelle Elvington, 84,  of Matthews, N. C. passed  away Thursday, October 10,  2013 at his residence. He  was born in Horry County,  the son of the late Plan Lanneau  Elvington Sr. and Neva  Thelma Rowell Elvington. Lt.  Col. Elvington was raised in  the Wannamaker Community  of Horry County and graduated  from The Citadel in  1952. After graduation, he  entered the military and  proudly served his country  as a member of the United  States Air Force. He had a  long and distinguished military  career, having served in  the Demilitarized Zone during  the Korean Conflict and  was instrumental in gaining  the release of the American  prisoners on board the  U. S. S. Pueblo. He later  served in the Intelligence  Department at the Pentagon  in Washington, D. C.

MULLINS--Joan E. Mooneyham Thigpen, 71, died Monday, September 9, 2013 at McLeod Hospice House after an illness.  Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Richardson Funeral Home of Marion. Entombment followed at Palmetto Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. Mrs. Thigpen was born in Augusta, GA, a daughter of the late Lawrence Haston Mooneyham and Margaret Daily Mooneyham. She is also predeceased by a son, Charles Donald Thigpen, Jr., and brothers, Larry and Randy Mooneyham.

Judith Diane Baldwin, 62, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at home after an illness. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Richardson Funeral Home. Burial followed at Palmetto Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Baldwin was born in Fairfax, VA, a daughter of the late James and Sarah Jane Wells Bridges. She was co-owner of Baldwin Construction Company and was a member of Pee Dee Rifle Club 1419.

Born in Marion, SC, Matt was the beloved son of Julie Bumgarner of Florence, SC (previously of Mullins, SC) and David Rouse of Marion, SC; loving brother of DJ Rouse of Marion, SC; nephew of Mitchell and Robin Rouse of Marion, SC, cousin of Price and Reese Rouse of Marion, SC, and cherished grandchild of Billy and Paula “Grace” Jones of Nichols, SC, Norma Rouse of Marion, SC and the late Donald Rouse of Marion, SC; special great-aunt Joann Adams as well as many other aunts and uncles.
